I am looking for an upper year student (or someone comfortable with taping and off ice training) 7:30 - 5:30 for
Tuesday Aug 16, Wednesday Aug 17 & Friday Aug 19 at the Jon Elkin Goalie School at Icelands arena in Mississauga. Duties include taping, first aid, assisting with dynamic warm up, foam roll out, stretch, off ice gym sessions and helping with odd jobs durning down time. Your own transportation is needed. Pay is $105/day and supplies are provided.

This is a great camp and I realize its last minute but my coverage fell through at the last minute so if you can pass the info on to anyone you think can help I would be so grateful! I can be contacted with more details at 519-216-2142.

CJFL Predators is a new team that has joined the Canadian Junior Football League and is looking for a fall placement student to work with their team. The team practices in Kitchener and in Waterloo. Rugby Ontario is seeking a certified Athletic Therapist or senior level certification candidate to travel with the U17 women's Rugby Ontario team to nationals in Calgary. I am looking for an Athletic Therapy student willing to cover two men's rugby games for $60/game and hours this Saturday (July 9th). The games will be in Hamilton on field 1 of the Mohawk Sports Complex (just near the corner of Mohawk Rd and Upper Kenilworth Ave). Kickoff is at 1:30pm and 3pm although there will be some taping to do before the game. There will be a kit on site to use for tape and other supplies but I'd ask that you bring your own fanny pack or small kit. EAP will already be made and in the kit. You may also have a volunteer 4th year kin student around to assist you for both games. They know all of the players and who needs what so it should make for an easier day’s work.

Looking for an AT to work with our Etobicoke Jr Dolphins team playing in the PWHL. Athletes ranging from 18-21yrs (female). Preference for a female trainer.
The individual has to be at all games - behind the bench - and must travel with the team to away games and tournaments. The going rate is a flat rate of $1,500 for the season which works out to about $30 per game - for the extended travel the team provides accommodations etc. - for day travel often the trainer rides with someone on the team.

2011 Tour for Kids

It's that time of year again and we are getting ready for the Tour for Kids. For the past 7 years, I have been lucky to have been involved with such a great group of organizers and cyclists. Some cyclists ride upwards of over 200 km per day in support of cancer for kids. The mission of Tour For Kids is to raise funds for three extraordinary camps that allow children with cancer to share laughter and build friendships with other brave kids from across Canada. In just 7 years, Tour For Kids participants have helped raise $5 million for these local camps.

At the end of their long days cycling, they need support and this is where we come in. Every year, the riders say we are the best part of the whole ride, and are incredibly appreciative of the medical team at the finish of each day.

We are looking for some A.T.'s and R.M.T.'s (students welcome also!) to help out with this epic ride throughout Ontario. At the end of the day, we would be required to massage and treat the riders as required. We usually start at about 3:30 and work till about 9ish. You will be fed very well and have breaks as required.

The dates and locations are as follows:

Day1: Thursday August 18th Trent University in Peterborough
Day 2: Friday August 19th Trent University in Peterborough
Day 3: Saturday August 20th Camp White Pine, Haliburton
Day 4: Sunday August 21st Bruce's Mill Conservation Area Trails, Richmond Hill

Pay: $150 per day (accommodations and food are included)

You can do 1,2, 3 or all 4 days, depending how much you would like to do. If you are doing more than one, accommodations are provided. You can drive your own vehicle, or there should be enough to be able to transfer you from location to location. If you live close to one of these stops you are more than welcome to do just one day, the riders would appreciate any and all help possible.

JOB TITLE: Athletic Trainer (Honorarium)

LEAGUE/TEAM: Minor Bantam – Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs AAA Hockey – 13-year-olds

JOB DUTIES:

- Attend most practices and definitely all games.

- Assist with Training Camp beginning August 8-11 and August 15-181.5 hours per day, preceded or followed by dryland training anywhere between 45 min- 1 hr session.

- Following training camp, we will be looking at 2 practices (1.5 hrs) per week for the remainder of August. Starting September, we are looking at 2 practices and 2 games per week through to approx. end of March 2012. In addition, there will be 4-5 weekend tournaments from early September to early January.

- Our expectation would be to provide normal trainer duties, as required, and prepare the team, through dryland warm-up, 45 minutes before each game.

COMPENSATION: A $2000 honorarium will be given to cover travel and expenses.

Burlington senior WOMEN'S FIELD LACROSSE team requires a therapist.

It is a rep travel team that plays on Sundays starting in may and concludes the 2ND last weekend of July for the Provincial Championships. Burlington is not scheduled to play on either of the long weekends. Practice is held on Monday evenings from 8:30-10:15 pm at Notre Dame Secondary School in Burlington under the lights on a turf field. Pay is between $20 - $30 per game for a team trainer. The typical game lasts 1:00 – 1:15 hrs ( 2 X 25 min halves – last 2 minutes stop time with 5 minute break). The trainer can either car pool or make their own way to the games. Typically 2 games are played on each day. The players range in age from 19 years to 33 year with a majority of them playing at the OUA or NCAA level or have played at that level previously. Some players are former National Team players and have played internationally. The trainer must also possess basic First Aid and CPR.

The games are scheduled in ORILLIA, TORONTO, OAKVILLE, BRAMPTON, OSHAWA, BURLINGTON, KITCHENER-WATERLOO. Alternate sites may be Six Nations, Peterborough (Kawartha), or Owen Sound.

My name is Matt Timberlake, and I am one of the coaches for the rugby team at Wellington Heights in Mount Forest.

We require an AT to be at each of our home games (which we play in Palmerston), and we have booked one for all but one game...and we are unfortunately running out of time to find one!

The game is May 3rd at 3:30pm at Norwell DHS in Palmerston (our field is being ripped up). The game is an hour long, with a 10 minute half. Your responsiblility would be to provide basic on-field assessment of injuries, some first aid, and a professional opinion about treatment options. I am a Kinesiologist myself (besides being a teacher), but we need a person not related to either school to be at the game. Canadian High School Ultimate Championships

Ultimate Canada will be hosting it's annual Canadian High School Ultimate (frisbee) Championships at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga. The tournament takes place on May 7 and 8 (Sat/Sun).

Coverage is requested from two Athletic Therapy students who have at least completed both 2nd year emerg classes. 16 teams from across Canada will be in attendance. An honorarium of $125 per day will be provided, in addition to snacks and water. Ability to speak french is an asset but not required.

That time of year again and we are looking for volunteer therapists to help out for the upcoming Mississauga Marathon. This has become Canada’s fastest growing marathon and it is only their 8th Anniversary.

As usual, we need help from A.T’s and P.T.’s who are looking to gain some field hours or just looking for a rewarding experience of watching over 12,000 runners cross the finish line.

March Moustache Madness

Ok ladies and gents, March is fast approaching and we all know what that means for the Athletic therapy program. The guys are going to be sacrificing their beautiful faces by growing mean ugly moustaches, goatees and beards in the name of charity. This is the 5th annual March Moustache Madness, and with your help we’re going to make it the best yet.
So here’s how it works:

Guys:
-Pay $10 entry fee.
-Shave all your facial hair on February 28th.
-Over the next month grow as much facial hair as you can, grooming is optional but recommended if you’ll be trying to get any dates over this time.
-At a date to be determined (likely either March 30th or 31st) shave your facial hair into the craziest design you can come up with.
-If you want to incorporate a costume in with your moustache this is acceptable and encouraged!

Girls:
-Don’t think your getting out of this event with just laughing at the guys for the month.
-You can get involved by donating $10 (or any amount) towards your class donation fund which could win you control over where the money is donated.

Judging:
-Judging will be done by faculty members.
-The judges will pick one winner from each year bringing us to 4 finalists.
-An overall winner of the competition from the remaining finalists will then be selected.
- Winner will be given a plaque and an award at the end of the year banquet!
- Judging is based on: creativity, amount of facial hair, design, difficulty of design, costume (optional yet seems necessary lately if you want to win).

Money: Ok here’s how the money will be divided up:
-The class who brings in the most money with their donations, will be given half the money and be able to pick the charity of their choice for the money to be given to.
-The other half of the money will be given to the class of the winning guy, and they can pick the charity of their choice to donate the money to.

Let’s remember that this is for charity, so let’s get a great turnout from both the guys and the girls and have lots of fun with this event. We raised $800 last year which was awesome, let’s shoot for a $1000 this year!!

Garfield Weston Awards

The W. Garfield Weston Awards program, as you may know, is the largest national community college scholarship in Canada. There are two types of awards: entrance, for students beginning their studies at colleges and CEGEPs (technical DECs); and upper-year, for students already enrolled in such programs. Annually, The W. Garfield Weston Foundation, through the Canadian Merit Scholarship Foundation, grants up to 25 of each kind of award.

Each renewable award comprises an $8,000 annual stipend, a matching tuition waiver from a partner college, $3,500 in summer funding, mentoring and participation in a national leadership conference. Upper-year students also receive a $4,000 grant to offset previously incurred costs.
For the upper-year awards, colleges and CEGEPs may nominate up to five candidates. Colleges in Newfoundland & Labrador, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick may nominate up to two students per college campus. Each college has an institutional representative who is responsible for the internal nomination process.

For the second consecutive year, I am co-hosting an event in Toronto called the National Invitational Combine (NIC). Essentially, it is a one day tryout where Canadian university football players will be auditioning in front of Canadian Football League scouts.

The students will be working under the supervision of Chris Puskas, a long time CFL therapist (and Sheridan alumnus), doing anything from taping joints and assessing injuries to filling water coolers and taking measurements. Lunch will be provided.

Last year, an outstanding group of seven or eight Sheridan students and graduates volunteered for this event, and were a huge asset and a pleasure to work with.

This year's NIC takes place on Friday, March 4 in Toronto and we would require coverage from approximately 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. The venues will be Lamport Stadium and Varsity Centre (University of Toronto).

OTTAWA, February 2, 2011 — Commonwealth Games Canada (CGC) is looking
for nine young Canadians who are passionate about sport to be part of
its third team of Capacity Support Officers (CSOs) to go abroad under
the innovative Capacity Support Program (CSP).

The CSP, a three-year pilot program co-funded by CGC in partnership with
the Commonwealth Games Federation, sends young Canadians with sport
administration backgrounds overseas to support Commonwealth Games
Associations in developing countries. CSOs assist with sport
administration activities ranging from programming, fundraising and
communications to the implementation of the games management software
program /Zeus/.

“This is an incredible opportunity for young Canadians to gain valuable
work experience abroad,” says Carla Thachuk, Manager of International
Programs for Commonwealth Games Canada. “The first two teams of CSOs
have described their placements as both challenging and extremely
rewarding. Their CSO experiences will resonate with them throughout
their lives.”

The first team of CSOs recently completed their 14-month placements in
Bermuda, Barbados and Trinidad & Tobago, while the second team—currently
serving in the African countries of Botswana, Zambia, Swaziland,
Seychelles and Lesotho—will complete their year-long placements in March
2011. All of the CSOs travelled to Delhi for the 2010 Commonwealth
Games, either with their host organizations or to work as part of the
Results Management Team.

“Having worked closely with Capacity Support Officers from both team one
and team two, it was amazing to see the development that these young
Canadians went through,” says Richard de Groen, Games Team Development
Manager for the Commonwealth Games Federation. “They have not only
enhanced their careers and gained an understanding of how Olympic and
Commonwealth sport systems work around the world, but more importantly,
their CSP experience has helped make them better people.”

The third year of the CSP marks the expansion of the program to nine
countries throughout the Commonwealth. These placements are open to
Canadians who have studied *Sport Management*,* Sport Administration*,*
Health*,* Physical Education*,* Kinesiology*,* Human Kinetics *or
*Recreation* at the postsecondary level. The CSO appointments are
volunteer positions, but successful candidates will receive a financial
package sufficient to cover all their costs, from pre-departure
orientation to a debriefing upon their return to Canada.

The 2011-12 CSO placements will run from April 18, 2011 to March 31,
2012 with the following CGC partners:
