University of the Fraser Valley Cascades Athletics Program invites applications for Athletic Therapist. This personal services contract position is a three-year rolling appointment, beginning August 1, 2009. Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
The UFV “Cascades” varsity teams currently include CIS/Canada West men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, BCCAA men’s and women’s volleyball, golf, and rowing.

Under the direction of the Director of Athletics, the Athletic Therapist will develop, coordinate and administer a comprehensive health care program for UFV University intercollegiate student athletes. The athletic therapist will also perform professional and administrative services essential for the successful implementation and development of the program.
Primary Responsibilities
* Develop overall sports medicine program for the University, including: injury prevention programs, injury evaluations, injury management, injury treatment and rehabilitation, educational programs and counselling for student-athletes
* Provide athletic training services for the University’s athletic department, including attendance at (some) scheduled team practices and home competitions and away competitions as necessary
* Establish a health care network of practitioners to service UFV student athletes on a timely and priority basis
* Coordinate and schedule physical examinations and medical referrals for student-athletes to determine their health status and ability to practice and compete
* Responsible for the recruitment, training and supervision of student trainers
* Develop and monitor the student athletes off-season fitness program
* Work in conjunction with the strength and conditioning experts to ensure safety in the design and implementation of fitness, nutrition and conditioning programs customized to meet individual student-athlete needs
* Schedule and coordinate student trainers and community experts for coverage of all team practices and athletic competitions
* Maintain accurate records of injuries, treatments and administer insurance claim forms for sports injuries treated by a health care professional
* Order and maintain supplies and equipment for the athletic therapy centre
* Develop and maintain a budget for the athletic training program.
* Evaluate and recommend new techniques and equipment that would enhance the benefit of the sports medical program
* Such other appropriate duties as may be assigned by the Director of Athletics.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in appropriate area of specialization, two to five years experience servicing athletes, certified by the Canadian Athletic Trainers’ Association (CATA) and familiarity with CIS, CCAA governing rules. He or she will have a proven track record that demonstrates possession of high levels of leadership, communication and organizational skills and integrity.
