I am the General Manager of Team Ontario-East football and we are going to be holding tryouts in Southern Ontario next weekend. We are desperately in need of a trainer for the tryouts and I was hoping you might be able to distribute this to anyone you think might be interested. Pay is $80 for the day and we have all of the necessary supplies (tape, first aid kit etc.). Anyone interested would have to be able to get to the tryouts on their own. The times and locations are listed below.

We would be happy to write a letter of recommendation and anyone who participated would be eligible to travel with the team to Lennoxville, Quebec for the National Championship Tournament in July as the official team trainer (all costs paid of course)

They need to be there Saturday and Sunday of that weekend, its the weekend after May 2-4 so it shouldn't interfere with any partying. haha! Attention: help needed for pre and post-race services at 5 Peaks Trail Race, Saturday April 26th, 2008, Horseshoe Valley.

Mobile health network is one of the sponsors of the 5 Peaks Trail Race Series this year.

We are looking for assistance (approx 10-15 people) to provide pre and post-race services for runners at the 5 Peaks Trail Race. Mostly massage and stretching, however, other disciplines are welcome…. Sports Therapy, Athletic therapy, Trainers, Physios, ART, Acupuncture. There will be about 600 participants expected and they travel from all over the GTA to run. We will all be under the umbrella of mobile health network, however, if you are present, you will be representing your school and your clinic. This is an excellent opportunity to gain exposure for your practice, and for students and new grads, to gain practical hours. Mobile health network is a multi-disciplinary health care team and service the GTA. We also network with other professionals and clinics in the GTA and surrounding regions.

Details:
Sat April 26th at Horseshoe Valley. Race starts at 10am. First runners will be finishing within 15 minutes of race start. The whole event and awards will be done by around noon.
There are 3 events: 5km, 10km, and children’s 1km. Usually kid’s race is first at 9:30. The 5 and 10km race starts at the same time at 10. More information can be found at www.5peaks.com

Please confirm interest by Apr19th, 2008. We will be able to provide canopies, and will need to know numbers ASAP to order them and plan layout. You will need to bring your own treatment tables. Also if interested in helping at other future events, please let us know. Contact Nadine at: Nadine@mobilehealthnetwork.ca for more details.

Thank you. I look forward to hearing from you soon and seeing you at the trails!

Dragon Boat Coverage

As the captain of Sheridan's Dragon Boat team, I'm wondering if there is a student that would like to be our trainer.
Here are our practice times. We meet at the Mississauga Canoe Club in Port Credit.

1- Wednesday, May 7th - 6PM
2 - Wednesday, May 14th, 6PM
3 - Wednesday May 21st - 6PM
4 - Wednesday, May 28th - 6PM
5 - Monday, June 2nd - 6PM
6 - Wednesday, June 4th - 6PM
7 - Wednesday, June 11th - 6PM
8- Sunday, June 15th - race day - 7:30 AM-3:30 ish

At this time we could have 2 boats, that would be approximately 50 paddlers. We traditionally have a wide age range - early 20s to retirement, a range of fitness levels, males & females, and it's not a competitive team, just a fun team.

I thought a trainer may be a nice addition as people don't tend to stretch - before or after our practices, and then end up with a variety of aches and pains. Apparently Dragon Boating is particularly hard on the Rotator Cuff (my current ailment), so it would be useful to have someone lead us through some basic stretches etc.

Also, I have started a Wiki for the team, where we can post information, pictures, etc. I started to post some training tips, but I'm really not sure whether I've picked up good information from the internet or not. So our trainer would be expected to help out on that section of the site.

So let me know if you have anyone that might be interested. Thanks

Dear Athletic Therapy Students, Faculty, Staff, Administration and Friends,

One week post party and I still have an after-glow of warm feelings and appreciation. It was a wonderful gala affair, with speeches, music, dancing and dare I say drinking. The aura of green in the room added to the feelings of spring, approaching the school year end and my sense of well-being.

Good luck to all of the students who are writing and taking practical exams this week and next. Extra good luck to the fourth year students, who will have comprehensives next Friday and the certification exam, potentially in June or December. I am confident that you are ready and will be successful.

The guitar playing and singing were very entertaining. Great music guys and Kirsty, the singing was exceptional. Thank you for preparing this at your busiest time of year.

I felt very honoured to have Maureen Callahan (VP Academic), Helen Allen (Dean) and Catherine Slaney (Associate Dean) all present for the gala. It may be a record to have such representation at our yearly banquet. By the way ladies, that was my twin sister who poised in the thong, in the nurse’s outfit and on the dance floor.

It is not easy to prepare speeches and deliver them, especially with the poor lighting. Elsa, Vern and Joe were exceptional and they made it so comical that their delivery seemed effortless. I was very touched by your messages.

I got to reading the brochure on Sunday and was surprised and delighted to see notes from my classmate Steve Dzubinski, the OATA president Drew Laskoski, and Richard Demont, president of the CATA and my dear friends Barry Bartlett, Elsa Orecchio, and Trevor Cottrell. I would like to give a special thanks to Fred Dunbar (Dunbar Medical), Rick Schaly (Trainers Choice), Annette McClelland (ABL) and the Alumni Office for their contributions.

It takes a lot of work putting power point presentations together, decorating, getting the brochure done, collecting pictures, putting an album together, having material printed, etc. Thank you to the organizing committee, for all your efforts.

It seems a crime to be rewarded for something that you loved to do and even get paid for it. Thank all of you for the memories. I look forward to seeing you at conventions and meetings and maybe even teaching you again, as grads in the future.

Sincerely,

Anne Hartley

Program Structure Changes

A series of significant program structure changes has just been approved for Athletic Therapy. These changes will result in some changing course loads for many of you over the next few years. We are excited about these changes as it alleviates some of the academic pressures in second and third year, and it provides more freedom of choice for electives. Your instructors will be circulating the new program maps during the exam period and we will also post them at the clinics for viewing. If you have any questions regarding these changes please inquire with Loriann Hynes or Trevor Cottrell.

Some Highlites Include:
1. Psych of Sport moved to semester 2
2. Growth and Developmental Psych changed to Growth Development and Physical Activity
3. Cultural Diversity replaced by a breadth elective.
4. Breadth electives moved from third to fourth year.
