Head Athletic Therapist / Trainer Position
Okanagan Hockey Academy is a division of the world-renowned Okanagan Hockey School. OHS is the longest and oldest running hockey school in the world providing professional hockey instruction since 1963. We are located in the city of Penticton, British Columbia. The Okanagan Hockey Academy is a prep school environment for players playing at the Major Midget, Midget AAA and Junior B level. Okanagan Hockey Academy has four teams within the program. The Okanagan Hockey Academy position is a twelve-month position mirroring the school year from September to June. In July and August the successful candidate will work with in Okanagan Hockey School as Strength and conditioning coach at the Penticton location.
Position Description
The Athletic Therapist / Trainer position is a position within the program that is responsible for all player injuries, sicknesses and general trainer duties. Some of the specific duties that the position includes are listed below:
o Working with team doctor
o Injury rehabilitation and prevention
o Documentation of all injuries
o Communicating all injuries to parents and coaches
o Conducting pre and post game workouts
o Practice preparation
o Strength and Conditioning Instruction
o Dressing Room Maintenance
o Conducting pre and post practice workouts
o Game preparation
o Monitoring player nutrition
o Supervising team off ice workouts
o Ordering and inventory of supplies
o Equipment maintenance
o Laundry
o Packing for road trips
Qualifications
The successful candidate must be certified through CATA and have strong communication skills with experience in the hockey industry. It is essential that the successful candidate understands the hockey environment and is able to handle the challenges it brings to the day-to-day work atmosphere.
